My favourite issue. The issue of not knowing Hindi is
a very simmering controversy when u live outside of TN. I am always shocked by the
fact that fellow 'Indians' expect or rather take for granted that everyone in India KNOW to speak Hindi, and they get shocked that I do not speak Hindi. I
would luv but do not have to time now to write more on the
way the central government has made hindi de-facto across nothern states soon after independance and the fact that this is a slow linguistic genocide for other
languages in India. All I can say is if the present influence of 'know-Hindi' attitude continues, and if sucessive TN
governments are not strong enough to oppose hindi domination from the center,
Tamizh might not even be in History(forget it as a living classical language)
books 1000 yrs from now in India if India exists and TN was still part of it.

My ultimate concern is will Tamizh survive the way it
has for milleniums in the past in the new United states of India for centuries ahead?
