Tsunami News around the world.

Just watched the BBC to find out what had happened to other areas. I am not confirming this news, but i am just registering what i heard from BBC. It says a location in northern Indonesia with a population of around 95,000 completely washed off.

The situation in Bangkok is very critical. Most of the victims are tourists who came to Thailand to celebrate Christmas & New year. Bangkok is famous for its beaches.

The reports from Indonesia, Thailand and other coastal countries are actually alarming. Things are worsening by the day. Everywhere, relief operations haven't taken the momentum it need to be. But let's also accept, this is one of the most tragic event of this century.

Today morning, some of the top officials in Red Cross has commented that the overall human loss will be in and around 1 lac. But to me, that figure looks meagre. The overall toll should be anywhere around 2 - 2.25 lacs, as we dont know the situation in North Eastern SL and some parts of Sumatra and also even in remote fisherman villages in TN. About TN, there is a complete coverage in Junior Vikatan with photos and the damage.

The situation in Srilanka is the worst among all. As i mailed you, North Eastern Sri Lanka, which is under the control of LTTE is the worst affected area. Every media inclu. BBC, CNN and other media are talking to the Sri lankan government officials. The SL officials are only concerned about their location & providing information about the damages. None of them incl. the Indian ambassador in SL is providing concrete information about North Eastern SL. In addition, the report i heard from one of the individual by the remark made by the Sri Lankan PM is not at all encouraging.

The sri lankan PM told something stupid to reuters. He said, If international countreis accept the request by LTTE (cuz they are asking help separately), then it will be worsing the ethnic war more." What the fuck is this? When millions of people are lingering for their life, what kind of words are these from civilised human being.

Going by the present reports, there are considerable amount of food, articles, medicines are available with TN. We now need to look for the rehabitalisation for all these victims. Food, cloth and shelter in a school won't solve their long term problems. Though it is too early to look for all these rehab issues, that will be the path to go. For now, i think, we gotta channalise our energies to support the relief & rescue operations in Tamil Eelam.

I am very mucy surprised & shocked to see, none of the so called Eelam supporters in TN including Mr. Vai.Ko, Mr. Ramadoss, Thirumavalavan and other down south organisations have openly said anything about them. "Enna pudingi kittu irukkanga nu theiryalai". Helping from India has it is own issues for SL tamils.

Also, the Sunami Attack was not considered as a National calamity by the Indian government. We need to urge the Central governement to announce this as a National calamity and provide relief measures, taxation benefits and other support things for the rehab & rescue operations.

I know a NGO with which you can co-ordinate things. Afterall, everywhere it is the same human life.

You can see TRO Online for more details in helping SL tamils. thanks Badri
