Money, Power & Greediness...

3 different things hits my senses today.

1. 8 year old Ajith found dead in a hole digged for water in TN. Police, Fire Service and People have tried to take off the boy from the hole for 9 hrs, ended up taking his body finally.

Who is to be blamed in this ?

Is the boy really unfortunate ?
Is the contractor who digged the hole is careless ? or
Are we all are responsible in a macro sense for our greediness to suck water from the ground upto 250 ,300 ft and leaves a desert to the next generation? Are we not responsible for this kid's death.

2. Arun Gawli, the underworld don till 3 months before, has started a political party and contesting in elections 2004. The logic is simple, no criminal case against him is proved or he is not acquited in any criminal case. This is the same person a year & half back, boldly criticize against Bal Thackray & Shiv Sena in the heart of mumbai. Arun gawli, is the same guy, who has made innumerable strikes in maharastra, being the mastermind behind many worker-related strikes and controlled the mumbai port. There is a saying "Politicians are criminals", going by that how are we going to take up "criminals who are turning into politicians and the end equation will be criminal's criminal". Where are we heading?

3. The Govt & BCCI is happy to go for the pak. tour. The PCB is threatened the BCCI few days back, for the cancellation of the tour, and said, they will report it to the ICC an claims a penalty fees in few million dollars. The govt. gives the green signals. A three member team from BCCI has travelled pakistan for security checks, and gave their consenus for the much-awaited Indo-Pak series after 15 years [The last time we went there was at 1989, where that soil gave us cricket's all time great, none other than Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. Will there be a similar thing happens this time ?]. This resulted in the world's biggest cricket tour in this year in terms of the sponsorship & rights.

This is not so bigger than ICC world cup, but for a series, this is a hefty revenue in terms sponsorship, collections and merchandise and advertising. Are we missing the core point that cricket is a game and not a war. Against Pak, i have often heard, that beating Pak. or losing to Pak. is the deciding factor of the cricketing value of this nation. On the other hand, Rameez Raja, former Pak. Cricket player and presently in the board of PCB said a point, which clearly illustrates the motive behind the entire tour. He called for Pak. companies to compete against Indian sponsors thereby raising the sponsorship tag and gaining more revenues. At last count, i believe, Samsung is the prime sponsor along with the Bajaj. The price they paid is a cool 15 Crore each. Do we have to bet or risk our player's life in pak for money ? When the president of the Pak. himself is narrowly escaped in 2 blast attempts how safe is to play in a country, where major international teams refused to play. [ Newzealand, England] In the name of joining hands, do we have to take such a big risk in betting our players in playing in Pak, when the bollywood's new found villain in their movies is Pak. army & supported terrorists [ LOC, Border, Mein hoo Hindustani etc]

Though on the surface all the three incidents seems to be different, the underlying principle or rather the invicible link is money, greediness and establishmental attitude. If not, the contractor dont have to be careless or a don need not get into contesting elections for sheer power or not 2 cricket boards gotta get the permissions & sanctions from the supreme rulers of the country for playing a game.

In the license raj, we were happy with our 1,000 rs. salary and conducted life peacefully and is that liberalisation, freedom, overdose of information, madness really driving us in a direction where we are all succumbed into the evil mouth of money, power & control. I donno.
